[Taiwan] Fo Guang Shan Monastery

Panorama shot of Fo Guan Shan Buddha Memorial Centre

I went to visit the Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Taiwan, it was spectacular !
It was also my first temple visit, and I was amazed by these architecture; definitely no regrets for the time spent there.

The Background

Fo Guan Shan is the biggest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. As of now, it has over 200 branch temples throughout the world with the goals to raise Humanistic Buddhism and to establish a "Pure Land" on earth.

Located on a mountain in the Kaoshiung city, public transports are limited, however, there is a bus that be take you there. The best way to go there will be to either drive, or take a taxi.

For more information, you can visit Fo Guan Shan's website on the link below:

The Experience

For personal reasons, I made many visits Fo Guang Shan after 2010. However, I never visited the Buddha Memorial Centre. This winter, I took the opportunity to go explore the area

My first impression? I was quite amazed by the whole Buddha Memorial Centre, from the indoor designs, to the temple structures. Despite the huge amount of tourists and visitors, the Buddha Memorial Centre still offered a peaceful and quite atmosphere. By honesty, I felt relaxed and relieved when I was there. The view of the area was spectacular!

The interesting part is that each temple tour has a theme, and a story to deliver. If you have the time, go visit each of these temples, it's rather amazing what they tell and show you.

For those who loves to buy souvenirs on trips, there is a tourist attraction mall in one of the building (I call that a building since it's designed for commercial purpose, but it has a temple design), that has a clean and modern interior with many souvenir boutiques and restaurants.
