I wanted to spend a relaxing afternoon with a good friend of mine, so I did some research on some tea rooms in the area of Montreal. While reading reviews, few of them caught my attention, "Gryphon D'Or Tea Room" was one of them.
Gryphon D'Or is well known for their tea and scones, many reviews also recommend their high tea.
The outside of the tea room seems old, you wouldn't know you passed by a tea room.
My Experience
First Impression
The inside has a friendly and a simple design, few wooded tables, and some paintings from artists.

Food and Service
Originally I decided to come here for high tea, but I was rather hungry at that time so I ordered a meal instead. Their specialty was a scone bun burger: a meatloaf topped with a slice of tomato and some vegetables. The meal comes with a soup, a salad, and dessert.The burger is tasty, the meat is tender, the flavour is rich, and the scone bun is the best!
Of course, I did not forget to order tea. There is a great selection of teas, I chose the "Irish Cream" to complement with the meal.
Dessert was a piece of chocolate lava cake topped with whipped cream and a strawberry. DELICIOUS! A bonus: the tea was great complement to the sweetness of the chocolate, it really brings out the flavour of the cake.
The down point of all this was that the service was not as good as the food. I was not greeted by any staff when I entered the room, I had to to find them myself to get served! The server did not seem patient, although she did show us how the menu works (Somehow the only menu they have is written on a blackboard, so customers can't order at the tables unless they know what they want). I guess they might be understaffed that day, they were only two running the tea room. However, for a first experience, service was not impressive.
My thought
Their specialty burger would definitely bring back many customers. The tea is definitely the star of the menu! The atmosphere of the tea room is cozy, and friendly, perfect for an afternoon tea with a friend.
